With the opening of Red Rock Country Club’s new Arroyo Course to daily fee play (opened October 15, 2003), you too can experience life at a private club for just a day or, if you really fall in love with Red Rock, for a lifetime.

The Arroyo Couse is located within the 738-acre private Red Rock community located on the southwestern edge of the Summerlin master-plan. Red Rock features two Arnold Palmer Signature designed golf courses – the Arroyo Course (open to daily fee play) and the private Mountain Course (open to Red Rock members only).

Aside from Palmer’s famed Bay Hill in Orlando, FL, the two Red Rock courses are considered two of The King’s finest all-around golf course layouts in the continental United States. Why is that you say? We’ll start with the setting. Red Rock sits in the shadows of one of Las Vegas’ most undeniably beautiful places, Red Rock Canyon. In fact, the entire Red Rock community meanders its way along the eastern edge of the gorgeous Spring Mountains, which form the southern boundary of Red Rock Canyon. Add incredible views of the famed Las Vegas skyline to the mix and you have one awe-inspiring setting for 36 golf holes.

Next, Palmer’s 50-plus years of playing the world’s finest golf courses has given him keen insight into what design elements will challenge low-handicappers yet allow high-handicappers to enjoy their everyday recreational rounds. No place is Palmer’s design expertise better illustrated than on Red Rock’s new Arroyo Course. Palmer designed Arroyo to be challenging, yet very playable for everyone. Water rears its sparkling head on just four holes and from beginning to end golfers will encounter 73 strategically placed bunkers.


The Arroyo course opens with a tough par 5 that requires three well-executed shots to safely reach the green. Off the tee, golfers must successfully negotiate two fairway bunkers to land it in the fairway. Second shots play downhill to a wide, and somewhat forgiving landing area approximately 140 yards from the green. The large green is guarded on three sides (front, back and left) by three deep bunkers. A large, forgiving green will allow its share of birdies and pars.


Moving on, Arroyo’s 195-yard, par-3, third hole is extremely deceptive. Proper club selection is key as prevailing westerly winds often aid tee shots to the green, which sits slightly downhill of the tee box. Depending on wind speed and direction, this testy par-3 can play anywhere from a wedge to a 2-iron. In a classic old-world architecture move, Palmer deceives the eye as green-side bunkers appear from the tee to engulf the green. Upon closer inspection, golfers will be pleased to know there’s plenty of room to land the ball on the green.


Arnold Palmer wouldn’t be “The King” without a career chalked full of late round heroics. Same could be said about the King’s courses – he’ll always give golfers a heroic finishing hole in which birdies can be snared. This 401-yard par-4 is no exception. Carry the lake off the tee and position yourself in the throat of the fairway that narrows to just 20 yards. With a mid- or low-iron in hand you can attack the pin and go for broke. Players must be aware of the bunkers that guard the left side of the green.


The thrill of receiving a private club golf experience for the day is easily worth it. Not to mention, the thrill of playing one of the King’s finest new courses. A word of warning for Arroyo visitors: love at first sight applies to golf course communities as well. After experiencing the Arroyo Course and being immersed in the elegant Red Rock community for a day, you might be tempted to stop at the sales center on the way out and pickup information on Red Rock’s membership opportunities.
